Neck & Shoulder Pain

shoulder neck pain relief osteopathy physiotherapy

Neck or shoulder pain?

Neck and shoulder pain is a somewhat confusing area, is it neck pain or is it shoulder pain is it both?

You may be wondering “why me?” or “it will settle with a bit of rest”. The unfortunate truth is simply – it WONT, or at least not a quickly or completely as if you see a physiotherapist or osteopath.

There are a few things you should know about Neck and Shoulder pain...

01

Shoulder and neck pain does not discriminate – it effects old and young, fit and unfit, sporty and sedentary alike.

02

Not all shoulder and neck pain is created equal – It can vary wildly from a slight ache to agonising neck, shoulder and arm pain.

03

Seeing a physiotherapist or osteopath for some good quality “hands on” manual therapy will speed up your recovery and get you back to being you in the shortest possible time.

04

You don’t need to currently be in pain to see a physiotherapist/osteopath – we routinely recommend seeing someone before you are suffering – you know the old saying “prevention is better than cure”

So what next?

So what can you do to start helping your neck and shoulder pain? Here are a couple of things just for starters

Make a decision as human beings we are really really bad at making decisions. That’s ok, it's just how we are wired. But you need to take steps to decide that you want to end your neck and shoulder pain now. We're guessing that if you are here you have probably already tried things such as massage, TENs, heat and rest and the pain is still there. Together at the clinic we have a combined 100 + years of experience helping people just like you get over their neck and shoulder pain

Avoid awkward positions – do you sleep on your front? That’s probably a big contributor to your neck and shoulder pain. What about answer the phone and hold to your ear with your shoulder? Yep you guessed it, this also is not helpful. The good news is, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy can help with these postural issues and get you back to being you as quickly as possible.

Do the right things ok so this sounds a little obvious – but as the saying goes “you don’t know what you don’t know” and doing the wrong exercises is as bad if not worse than not doing any. You will be surprised at how quickly doing the right exercises can reduce your pain and discomfort. Having a proper assessment by a qualified therapist and a personalised treatment plan can quickly help towards resolving your pain.

Get Proper treatment Physiotherapy and Osteopathy involves manual therapy. We know from research that this helps to decrease pain and increase function. This is the type of manual therapy we offer at our clinics. Unfortunately, lots of people don’t receive this type of treatment from the NHS. Don’t get us wrong, we love the NHS but the bottom line is its underfunded and over subscribed so services such as physiotherapy can no longer provide the type of quality hands on service that we know many would like to be able to.

We are one of only a handful of clinics in the UK that utilise the revolutionary ViMove movement analysis technology and combine with IDD therapy for Low back pain and Sciatica. Our goal is to help you achieve your goals in a short a time as possible.
